Complimentary Initial Consultation

Contact R.E.A.D. Learning for an initial consultation to determine if my services are a good fit for you or your child's educational needs.  All families are offered a complimentary initial consultation.  If the signs and symptoms of dyslexia are not present, I can refer you to other resources that may fit your needs.

Dyslexia Screening
I am a trained dyslexia screener and offer screening services in two different formats.

Consultation Only Format - This service includes an extensive review of student background and educational performance including a formal records review.

Consultation with Testing and Written Report - This service includes an extensive review of student background and educational performance including a formal records review, student testing for dyslexia, and a formal written report that summarizes all findings and recommendations.

Private Teaching
Format
All teaching sessions are one-on one or small group format. Students need to be closely matched in ability level to have the option of being instructed in a small group. I never teach more than two students in a small group.  This format is essential to maximize all student's instructional time.  We want every minute to count, allowing your child to make the academic gains they need to bring their reading, writing,and/or spelling up to grade level. R.E.A.D. Learning offers three different teaching packages to choose from.

Time & Level of Mastery
Sessions are 50 minutes in length.  You will be provided with measurable goals and progress monitoring of the student’s work toward these goals. Every skill presented is taught to mastery, and new skills are introduced only when the student has reached mastery of taught skills.

Instructional Style
All of our programs are multi-sensory, which means students are actively engaged in learning.  To put it simply, research has shown that, "two wires that fire together, wire together."  When students are hearing, verbally responding, writing, seeing, and using manipulatives to learn a given skill, they will achieve mastery of that skill faster and with more accuracy than when presented with traditional instruction.

"Dyslexic students need a different approach to learning language from that employed in most classrooms..."

Quoted from, International Dyslexia Association (IDA).  Research about multi-sensory teaching can be found on the IDA website.

Philosophy of Education

R.E.A.D. Learning Services embraces student learning differences and
empowers students to close the gap between their academic performance and grade level expectations. I believe all students can learn and experience  success in reading, writing, and spelling when given intense, regular, and research based instruction.  The implementation of  multi-sensory, explicit, systematic, and research based programs that target specific reading deficits give my students the skills necessary to succeed.  My passion is leading students to reading and writing success when traditional methods have not worked.
